TEMPLE ARCHITECTURE IN KERALA.
In purely archaeological terms much of kerala architecture is early or late medieval . but this is only a historical period statement ,the text VASTU ,AGAMA, or TANTRA are also late medieval however the architecture style as also the ritual has elementes of many ancient traditions. the field is vast & despite the monumental work of scholars like poduval ,sarkar {two reachers} & others,much morr is called for.here we can draw attention only to some pan india trans_historical principles &fundamentals &equally remarkable distinctive regional features. the architecture plan of the kerala templs are built largely on the pan indian almost universal model of the VASTHUPURUSA. the figure of man purusa in the literal sense as also figurative mean & as a macro & micro measure has from time immemorial been used in many culture as a symbol of co-ordinated function a whole, vedic ritual {karma kanda} the viniyoga concretised the absract concepts of the PURUSA in the RIGVEDA. vastu texts ranging from the AGNIPURANA to the latrst from kerala namely the arc.........plan of the hindu tempel is based on the TANTRASAMUCHAYA by chennas namboodiripad & SILPARATNA OF SRIKUMARA all make reference to the figure of man in indian architecture plans.

Chembai vaidyanatha bagavathar [1894-1974} was born in a family with a musical tradition.he studied music under his father,sre anantha bagavathar ,a famous vocalist and violinist. for over maney years,chembai dominated the field of carnatic music with his ringing voice.KATRIKA SWARA[katiri swara} is his famous perfomence.hi is a storing BAKTHA of lord sree guruvaayoorappan.it was a strange coincidence that chembai.who began his professional career with a music at krishna temple in kerala,should have his last concert also at the krishna temple at OTTAPPALAM [plghat dist}.on 16th of october 1974,a few hours after that memmorable concert ,chembai breathed his last at the age of 80.his famouse keerthana ....KARUNA CHEYVANENTHU THAAMASAM KRISHNA.....of his last word..

KATHAKALI A REAL CLASSICAL THEATRE.
One of the oldest temple art forms in kerala,kathakali still sticks to the ancient format:,kathakali masters for centuries refused to innovate and stuck to the age_old traditonal form of presentation.some changes have com,the duration is reduced from nightlong plays to a few hours.the art from has out ofthe precincts of temples on to kathakali clubs. the plays same ones written by stalwarts to suit aleisurely village life ans temple festivals. kalamandalam in cheruthuruthy established by poet vallathol still dominates the field and produces artistes of repute.very few who com out of this university dartry new innivations for fear of the wrath of the masters. continu....

The purano tantic stage of the religion was once decried by european critics and indian reformers as a base and ignorent degradation of an earlier and purer religion.it was rather an effort,successful in great measure,to open the general mind of the people to a higher and deeper range of inner truth and experience and feeling.much of the adverse criticism once heard proceeded from atotal ignorance of the sense and intention of this worship.much of the criticism has been uselessly concentrated on side path and aberrations wich could hardly be avodied in this immensely audacious experimental widening of the basis of the culture. 4 there was a catholic attempet to draw towards the spiritual truth minds of all qualities and people of all classees. much was lost of the profound phychic knoweldge of the VEDIC seers, but much also of new knoweldge was developed,untrodden wayas were opened and a hundred gates discovered into the infinite.
