TEMPLE ARCHITECTURE IN KERALA.

In purely archaeological terms much of kerala architecture is early or late medieval . but this is only a historical period statement ,the text VASTU ,AGAMA, or TANTRA are also late medieval however the architecture style as also the ritual has elementes of many ancient traditions. the field is vast & despite the monumental work of scholars like poduval ,sarkar {two reachers} & others,much morr is called for.here we can draw attention only to some pan india trans_historical principles &fundamentals &equally remarkable distinctive regional features. the architecture plan of the kerala templs are built largely on the pan indian almost universal model of the VASTHUPURUSA. the figure of man purusa in the literal sense as also figurative mean & as a macro & micro measure has from time immemorial been used in many culture as a symbol of co-ordinated function a whole, vedic ritual {karma kanda} the viniyoga concretised the absract concepts of the PURUSA in the RIGVEDA. vastu texts ranging from the AGNIPURANA to the latrst from kerala namely the arc.........plan of the hindu tempel is based on the TANTRASAMUCHAYA by chennas namboodiripad & SILPARATNA OF SRIKUMARA all make reference to the figure of man in indian architecture plans.
